Amygdala fMRI reproducibility: a 2020 study

How reproducible is the fMRI response of the amygdala during an emotion-processing task?

In a study co-authored by Martin Tik, researchers examined a facial-emotion task at 7 Tesla across repeated runs and two scanning sessions. Group-level amygdala activation maps were reproducible across the tested conditions. The study also observed habituation within sessions and assessed reliability when combining multiple runs.

Why this remains relevant

When studying individual brain responses, the measurement itself needs careful evaluation. Repeated measurements and the choice of acquisition and analysis methods matter when interpreting changes in an emotion-related network.

This study concerns task-based fMRI reproducibility. It does not validate a TMS treatment or a clinical diagnostic test.
