Bringing stimulation, imaging and behaviour onto a shared experimental timeline.
Coordinate the experiment
Concurrent TMS-fMRI combines a controlled intervention with a spatially resolved measure of the brain’s response. We coordinate pulse delivery, MRI acquisition and task events so that each stimulation condition can be related to the resulting BOLD signal and, where relevant, behaviour.
Acquire reliable signals
Interleaving stimulation with image acquisition and optimising the imaging protocol help limit stimulation-related artefacts. We assess image quality, motion and signal sensitivity before interpreting network responses.
Connect timing to the question
In chronometric experiments, stimulation is delivered at defined times relative to a cognitive event. Comparing these time points helps test when a targeted region contributes to task performance and how network engagement changes.
From acquisition to analysis
Documented timing, individual target localisation and appropriate comparison conditions are central to a reproducible workflow. Our work connects experimental design, acquisition and analysis with MR physics colleagues and international teams implementing concurrent stimulation methods.

Measuring engagement during accelerated stimulation
Our methods collaboration with the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab extends interleaved imaging to accelerated intermittent theta-burst stimulation. The aim is to measure network responses while a stimulation protocol is delivered and to connect experimental timing with interpretable imaging data.
