Vinzenz Wutzl works on the physical foundations of personalised TMS: how the orientation of the stimulation coil shapes the electric field induced in the brain.
Coil orientation and individual anatomy
For his bachelor’s thesis in Technical Physics at TU Wien, completed at the Medical University of Vienna in August 2026, he used individual head models and finite-element simulations in SimNIBS to compare TMS-coil orientations at the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.
The work connects stimulation geometry with individual anatomy and contributes to the group’s efforts to characterise the physical dose delivered by TMS.
